| New York City | How to get from LGA to Long Island City Posted: Mon May 5, 2008 11:52 AM UTC
A friend and I are going to NYC for the first time. Our plane lands at LGA, but we're staying at the Comfort Inn in Long Island City. What is the best and cheapest way to get from the airport to the hotel?
I've done an online quote through SuperShuttle, and it would be about $64 dollars total ($32/person). Is this a reasonable fare? Might I find a cheaper rate through another source? How much might a taxi cost? My plane arrives at 5:40 PM, so I would be traveling to my hotel during a heavy traffic time, I presume. Thank you in advance for all your help! |

Your hotel is really quite close to LGA. Driving in a car, even with rush-hour traffic, should only take about 15-20 minutes. I don't take a lot of taxis when I'm in NYC but I think it would be much less that what you were quoted by the shuttle. There are also private car services that you can call upon landing and they usually send a car to pick you up within 10 minutes of calling. I used one to go all the way into Midtown Manhattan two weeks ago and the total was $35. Ifyou want the phone number VTmail me.

Is your Comfort Inn at the base of the 59 St Bridge? If so, you are one block away from the Queensboro Plaza stop of the N, R, and 7 trains. From LaGuardia, you can take the 72 bus, along Junction Blvd, or the 33 bus, along 82 St, to Roosevelt Ave, where you catch the 7 train Manhattan-bound. Buy a Metrocard from a vending machine. You can transfer, from train to bus, for free within a 2 hour period. So the bus&train trip, from LaG to hotel, costs $2 for each of you. go to www.mta/info/nyct/maps
you can still take a cab, of course, and that will still cheaper than that Shuttle, as you and your friend will split the cab fare.

Start with the M60 bus from LaGuardia Airport station. I live in Manhattan and use hopstop online for bus and train info, you can also use the MTA as was mentioned in earlier post.
http://www.hopstop.com Use the New York City link and type in LaGuardia Airport as departure address and your hotel address as destination. Click Queens in drop down boxes, both LGA and Long Island City are in borough of Queens. Print out the map. The M60 is the LaGuardia Airport bus which travels back and forth from LaGuardia into Manhattan, and all for $2.00 per trip or less! including a train transfer. The M60 route is through Queens to Manhattan. My sister used the M60 bus last month. I told her about it but she likes to travel with all the comforts and was planning to take a taxi into Manhattan; however, her seatmate on the plane was using the bus so she used it too and was very happy with the service. That still didn't prevent her from taking a cab from the bus to her hotel. However, her hotel was only a couple of blocks from a midtown train station. We drove her back to the airport but I think she will use the M60 bus plus train for her next visit. BTW, is there any special reason you are staying in Queens instead of Manhattan???

Hi,
I live next to Long Island City and the car service I use charges about $17; with a $3 tip, you're looking at no more than $20. They are Olympic Car Service, phone 718-626-8000. Or, just get in an NYC Yellow Cab, the price should be about the same.
