| Budapest | Budapest to Warsaw by train - advance ticket purchase Posted: Mon May 5, 2008 11:12 AM UTC
I plan to take an overnight train from Budapest to Warsaw on May 21st.
The "Savings Price" mentioned here http://www.mav-start.hu/ajanlatok/kulfoldi_utazasi seems like a good deal and I would certainly get 3 or 4 persons compartment. Do I undestand it correctly that I have to add "seat reservation" fee mentioned in the chart below other prices to get the final price of the ticket? Also, any ideas on the real availability of these "special offers" and how to check it? My plan was to write an email in English to Wasteels.hu, but other options would be highly appreciated (any experience calling MAV on such issues and getting an English speaker?) And finally, where to get some information on the "regular price" for one way Budapest to Warsaw trip (not the one from jizdenka.cz, but the one that you actually pay if Sparprice is no longer available. So smth like walk up fare for airlines) Thanks in advance for any useful hints! |

Thanks, Karamella!
This is really helpful, especially the "normal prices". But the question still remains how to check whether the "savings" tickets are still available for Bud-Waw on May 21 night train. And how to buy it without being physically present in Budapest until May 17th? The regular train fare for a decent one-way ticket seems a bit too high for value for time and money ratio, so if my chances of getting the cheaper seats are slim, I would probably use my airmiles for one-way airticket.

I will try to re-phrase it:
How to find out if "cheap tickets" Budapest - Warsaw(see the table with SparNight prices from the Hungarian link in my first post) are still available for 21st of May? If such seats are available, how to reserve/purchase them if you are not in Hungary? Thanks in advance!

Well, I understand it better. But unfortunately, I neither find anithing that is connecting with that. Have you looked this website?
http://rozklad-pkp.pl/bin/query.exe/en? I hope you found some information about your problem.

Vicces vagy: először átfogalmaztatod a kérdést, mert nem érted, aztán végre megérted, de nem tudsz rá válaszolni. Miért nem olyan kérdéshez szólsz hozzá, amit értesz, és amiben tudsz segíteni?

Hello,
I contacted the train company and I was told, there is no way for checking availabilities, only for buying this ticket if available. It means, that IF they ask the availability for the requested day, the system either prints this ticket (and no refund afterwards) or says that no availability. Strange, but that's how it works. As far as they know you cannot manage it via internet, so the bad new is that you should be here for buying, but is you arrive just 1-2 days before, almost sure that you cannot get this cheap price. Or, if you have anyone here in Hungary, he/she can buy the ticket. :( brgds/Judit

Thanks a lot, Karamella!
Your information on the problem with availability check is quite in line with what I have heard from Wasteels.hu agent. However, they were kind enough to suggest that they can issue the requested ticket in advance if I forward them my card details. I am going to proceed with that option and hope that at least one Sparprice ticket is available for Double/Triple/4 or 6 berth compartment (that would be my choice of preferences, I guess) I would be glad to report the results, but the so far, my communication with Wasteels.hu was very positive, so one should not avoid them just because of their empty English version of the website. Nazeimah, do not be too tough:) After all, we all are here to help and learn.

Thanks again for your very valueable information.
By any chance, do you have any ideas/information on what would happen in the following situation? Suppose, I want to buy a berth in a double compartment, but only if Sparprice is availble. The agent sends the request for one berth in double and, suppose, all Sparprice tickets are sold already. Will s/he get a chance to modify this request and see whether Sprarpice tickets are available at other types of compartments. Or (worst case scenario) if no Sparprice is available for double, will the system simply print one ticket to Double at the full fare? In my case, I would probably go for one place in Double (esp. if you can get a lower berth) for Sparprice, but if I have to pay a full fare, I would probably go for 4 berth compartment. Thanks again, esp to Judit!
