Budapest Botel Lida
Posted: Mon May 5, 2008 09:08 AM UTC
My wife and I are from U.S. and are living in Prague. We are going to Budapest by overnight bus this weekend May 8th and planning a one night stay at Botel Lida. Only two days in the city. Would like opinion of Botel and any suggestions for two packed days before returning on overnight bus.

Budapest Budapest in 2 days
Posted: Mon May 5, 2008 12:44 PM UTC
Hi!
I don't have any experience with the Botel, but I know Budapest pretty well. For 2 days I'd suggest to buy a round of 10 tickets at the nearest Metrostop (you can buy "leaflets" of tickets, they are good for all public transportation). Get the overview at Castle Hill (Budavar). Take the metro to Moszkva ter (=Moscow square) and then the Minibus to get there (Bus stop is above the square, 100 m). See the Fisherman's Bastion and the view. There is a National Gallery in the castle, it may hold a special exhibition which in that case is worth your precious time. Otherwise: return to the Buda side. If you like to walk ( I recommend this) ; take the road from the Castle itself down to Chain Bridge. Cross this and find Deak Ter. Follow the crowd towards Vaci utca, which is the main shopping pedestrian street. In the area lots of restaurants, although prices are "touristic". Some of the side streets have more local restaurants. At the very end of Vaci utca you find Central Market. Walk down to Danube, and take tram northwards to Kossuth ter and the Parliament. This should be around 1 day. The next day: go up Andrassy street. Pass the Opera. See Liszt Ferenc ter (a lot of nice restaurants here). COntinue to Heroes' square. Potentially interesting exhibitions worth checking out. If more time: see the Cathedral as well. Remember to check out the concerts (not the ones pushed by sellers in Vaci street, but check the official tourist program)

If you have further questions, please let me know!

Enjoy!

Hello.

I have no idea about Botel Lisa, I checked in web, see

http://www.ohb.hu/botellisa/index.en.html#desc

as for me I would not stay so far from city center , if I have two days only...

What you can see in Budapest:

-Heroe's square and City Park with Vajdahunyad Castle,
-take an underground there and go to Oktogon/Andrassy str
-drink a coffe or sg on Liszt Ferenc square/you can also eat there
-walk tovards on Adrassy str, you see the Opera on the rigth side
-when arrive to the end of the street, walk to right, you find Basilika
-come back to Andrassy str, go forward for Downtown, walk around..
(Vörösmarty square, Váci utca, etc)
-have a rest, and in the evening go to a good hungarian restaurant and taste
or national foods
-or, if you are not tired you can go to Buda side / the other side of the river, and go up to Castle hill, se the Castle, Fisherman's bastion, Matthias churc, etc. Don't miss Ruswurm coffe house whic is famous of its "krémes" /cake with cream

If you do so, you have one day left which you can spend in Szentendre, a smal village not to far from Budapest.

Another solution, take a city sightseeing bus, or maybe better a hop on hop off!!!

Enjoy your stay here

Judit

Okay, my suggestion. But Budapest can not be done in one or two days.

First Day (1/2 day)
Take the Funicular up to Buda Castle, Fisherman’s Bastion and Matthias Church. Spend the daylight hours walking around Buda, the shops, museums, etc.
Chain Bridge
Evening: Gellert Hill after dark and look down on the city of Budapest

Second Day
Morning: Walk up Andrassy Street to the Terror Museum, Hero’s Square, City Park (lots to see in between these)
Cathedral
Evening: Concert, Opera or Operetta

Third Day
Morning Vaci Street to shop and eat.
Parliament Tour
Danube Embankment
Grand Market
Evening Dinner Danube Dinner Cruise - maybe with the Folk Dance Show

As for food, its hard to do wrong in Budapest.

HOTEL SUGGESTION:

Go to Google Earth. Plug in the coordinates 47 29 59.00N 19 03 14.00E and draw a circle around that point with a radius of 500 meters. Find a place to stay within the circle. This generally puts you close to good late afternoon and evening spots and great places just to wander around in (when i really don't want expend any more effort than necessary and still want to enjoy Bp.) AND it's close to public transport to any place you might want to go in the morning and early afternoon. If you are younger, it puts you close to the night clubs, bars, pubs, etc. AND it provides a pretty good mix of Tourist traps and REAL places.

My two favorite in the area are the K&K Opera (when I take the wife) and Hotel Pest (when I travel alone = less expensive).

Thank you for your help. I did google and it does seem far out of the center. We have found that the big cities of Europe have excellent metro systems and we are not afraid to use them to the full extent. I assume Budapest is like Praha or Wien. Our son and his soon to be bride stayed at this botel so we are going to make the sacrifice of not staying in a more central location. Wish us well.
