what to do in morocco. Posted: Mon May 5, 2008 07:13 AM UTC
My friend and I (two young women) are planning to travel to morocco, first stopping in tangier and then traveling on to casablanca. We do not really have any idea which cities are the most interesting and possibly safest. Is it more worth while to stay an extra day in tangier or casablanca. We have three days. Would other cities like fes, meknes, or rabat give us a better experience into moroccan culture? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Fes and Meknes would certainly give you a greater culture shock than Casa. If you had time and cut Casa out altogether, you could follow on to Marrakech.

I agree with the last poster, Casablanca is a sprawling modern city and not worth the time it takes to get there. As you are only going to be in Morocco for 3 days, Marrakesh even though it will open your eyes to Moroccan culture is 10 hours away by train. Fes or Meknes would be your better option, there is plenty to see and do. Try not to get involved with unofficial guides, the ones in Fes are notorious and the most pushy. If you dress modestly your personal safety will not be compromised.

As you are so close already head to Chefchaouen and Fes. Rent a car, that'll give you your best options, but only if you are confident drivers back home. If not it'll be too much to take on in only 3 days and rather pay for shared taxis.

In all Moroccan cities there's safety..So the kingdom is not limited in the cties you previously mentioned.Go and see Fez,Rabat,Marrakch and the south..the genuine Morocco.

Unless you are able to extend your time 3 days relying on public transport is not a great deal of time to enjoy too much further afield - as in your other post Id recommend enjoying the sights around Asilah, Tetouan and Chefchouen - go down to Fes if you really have time - and youd really only time if you do have a car. the roads are fine for careful driving around there and very pretty. the Road from Chefchaoune to Ouazzane is rather scenic.
Renting a car from Tangier is a little expensive - about £45 a day - but with two of you to share the costs then it could be a good idea to take the opportunity - to maximise your time and experiences - as public transport and waiting around on Moroccan time can be a little time wasting. fuel is still rather lowcost.
there are fast freeways from Rabat up to Tangier and Rabat to Meknes. so you could do a nice circuit with a car in 3 days.
