| Boracay Island | Sanders Beach Resort Posted: Mon May 5, 2008 05:17 AM UTC
Hi! My wife and I and a couple of friends are headed to boracay on may 8-10. We are booked at sanders. Is it a good resort? I got the twin share room with hot and cold water and ref for 2,500/night. Is it a good deal or a rip-off? Any good restos or turo-turo within the area? How do we go about if we want to explore the island on mountain bikes? How much is the rental? Thanks

You must mean Sanders Whitewhich is behind Villa De Oro resort next to La Camilla. There old rooms certainly not worth 2500 but they were building new rooms when I was there last September and they may be better.

Yes, you were right it was indeed Sanders White, and we were billeted at the new rooms you were reffering to, it was called the bonsai. It was definitely not worth my 2,500 pesos. We arrived at bora on a "habagat season" thus the waves were strong and the water is filled with green algae and sea weeds. On the other side of the island was were we found calm and crystal clear waters. Bikes can be had for 75pesos/hr at d'mall. I will rate our trip 4/5 chillies.

In Habagat season there is no algae. Algae is only during the calm 'amihan' time when the water is flat, from Feb - May.

That's definitely not what I saw there last weekend. Strong waves with lots of algae. On the other side of the island where there were calm waters, no algae in sight.

The strong waves have just arrived. Within days the algae will be all washed away. There's not usually algae during habagat. But it is nice and calm on the other side of the island (Bulabog) during that time. Not as good for swimming though as lots of corals.

Maybe he is talking about the island of Bora Bora. This is Boracay!

Hey Mr. Burglar you can't force anybody to agree on what you believe in, you don't have a monopoly of right opinions on this forum. I am merely stating what I saw as attested by sirenna that the strong waves are already coming in. Now, do you have a problem with that?

Mr Burglar is right about the algae normally being February till May, i.e. high season. You must have caught the crossover period just before it vanished. Its gone now. The waves certainly are big now!
