looks like the train would leave us about a kilometre from the hotel, more than I'd like for a tired four year old -- the hotel site says a bus is nearby, but I can't figure out which this is. On the visit oslo site, there is mentioned an airport express bus and flubussekpressen. I can't make head or tails out of the latter, and the route for the former shows it starting at the airport and ending at the SAS hotel. Can anyone advise how I can get close to the Thon Hotel Munch from the airport, without using a taxi?

Flybussen - the airport express bus - will get you a lot closer than the train. Here's the map of the route Flybussen takes in the city centre: http://flybussen.no/oslo/?article=112

Thon Hotel Munch is situated in Munchs gate, which you'll find on that map just under "Nytt stoppested New stop St. Olav's plass" - which is the stop where you'll want to get off the bus.

we are in love with bergen and wish we could have had longer to stay here. the city and the people are simply lovely. there is a job in my field here and now i wil consider applying!
regarding flybussen when we return tomorrow to oslo, do you know if one can buy tix on the bus with a credit card_? i hate to change more money if not necessary but would not like to find out the hard way!

I guess you've found out about Flybussen by now (I wasn't online yesterday) - I'm pretty sure, though not 100%, that you can pay by credit card. Ticket price for Flybussen (in Bergen) is 80NOK / adult, 40NOK / child (but children travelling together with an adult don't have to pay)

Your daughter should ask the *russ* (graduates) for a "russekort" - kind of like a business card ;o), which they give out to their friends and pretty much anyone who asks. We used to collect these cards when we were little!

...I wasn't awake before, apparently... regarding Flybussen in *Oslo*, not Bergen ;o) - tickets are more expensive than in Bergen: 130 NOK /adult (or 220 for a return ticket), children travelling together with an adult: free. And, according to the website: they do accept credit cards.

one of the *russ* kindly did give us her card, with her cute little baby picture on it' moreover she had lived a year in the states...three of them were so sweet to my daughter and she will remember them as best a 4 year old can! I stupidly assumed her email address would be on the card and didn't even check, just wish I had a way to write her and give her a copy of the picture. The more we talked with Norwegians, the more we learned and the more comfortable we felt. It was really a great trip; the only downside is the horrible fate of the dollar, which is now near worthless. Thanks for your help!
