| Prague | Tours and Booking Posted: Sun May 4, 2008 09:19 PM UTC
I'll be traveling to Prague June 14-21, and I'm looking for some recommendations on tours and such.
1. Are there any tours I shouldn't miss? 2. Are there any tickets (to anything) I should book in advance? Thanks! |

If you want to go to the Jewish quarter allow at least 1/2 a day. Tickets are sold as a package to a number of sites and to justify your expense make sure you allow enough time there.

The Terezin concentration camp can be visited independently but we took a tourbus there more for convenience than because we HAD to and were rewarded with a fairly knowledgeable guide and a quick trip back to Prague in time to continue our touring by midafternoon. If you go independently, it will be cheaper of course but take longer and you may not feel like walking to all the important sites.
Similarly, the Jewish Museum - 5 old synagogues and the famed cemetary - can be visited independently but we had a superb guide who added considerably to this important experience. We passed on all the other tours, many of which stopped at the outsides of buildings but did not go inside, particularly limiting for churches, especially in the castle district. Bring a good guidebook and go yourself. With 7 days, you should have time for other daytrips - hopefully others will fill you in on this post better than I can.

Prague is a wonderful walking town. If you were looking for an organized tour, I would recommend a Prague Walking Tour (such as the one found on www.viator.com). This will give you hefty dose of history and introduce you to some of the most important sites.
