| Ascot | where to stay? Posted: Sun May 4, 2008 07:46 PM UTC
Thinking of going to Royal Ascot this year (on the Saturday).
Any ideas for somewhere to stay? We'd be driving, and coming from Heathrow, so somewhere west/south west of the airport but not in Ascot itself... Don't like "country house" type places. Happy with budget chains. One other question - if my 14 year old comes along does he have to stick to the general admission rules too (collar & tie - no jeans etc)? He'd look a bit of a pratt in his school uniform! Thats all he has apart from leisure clothes. Maybe I could rent a kilt for him! |

No idea about where to stay, sorry, but there's only a formal dress code if you are a 'premier admission'. If you are, then your son will clearly need his kilt. Otherwise not (just as long as he doesn't have a bare chest).
http://www.ascot.co.uk/fixtic/fixtic_adm.html So it all hinges on whether you are a 'premier' or a 'general'.....

I thought there was no "premier" for the Royal meeting (it becomes the Royal enclosure), and everyone has to up their standards in the general admission (much like the prices are x4 the usual ones). If you want to "go as you are" you can get silver ring. Maybe I'll phone the course tomorrow.
We've been to Bracknell, Twickenham/Richmond & Maidenhead/Marlow , but generally once I get outside Heathrow I don't know my Wokings from my Dorkings, so we could end up in a dreadful slum.

Have a look around Windsor, Bracknell, Egham, Staines, Wokingham or Slough.

They have a helpful website but it does not mention children. I have been dealing with them buying bulk tickets and they were very nice to deal with, so you could always give them a call on 0870 7227 227.
They have a helpful website but does not mention children http://www.ascot.co.uk/royal/royal_admdre.html I also suggest you think about booking parking in advance, website should help with that as well.

Thanks all - trip now all booked/organised (apart from car hire and whether there will be 3 of us or 4 - small detail!)
Still have to break the news to Junior about him having to wear a frock and hat (ice hockey players don't do it very often).
