| Barcelona | what to do in one day Posted: Sun May 4, 2008 04:05 PM UTC
We will be in Barcelona in July but are only going to be there for around 8-9 hours its a Friday I have visited before but it was 16 years ago now when I was a child they where still building the olympic stadium. I was just wondering what people think are not to be missed activities and if its better to walk around the main sites or get the tourist bus. We will have a 7 year old girl with us also (not doing the football stadium) but she loves walking and architecture and stuff like that.
Thanks for your help and advice |

If your daughter likes walking and architecture I'd suggest that you make a list of Guadi's works around the city and start at Parc Guell, that is architecture that isn't seen every where and should amuse her quite a bit. Also a walk through Las Ramblas should offer her lots of interesting experiences, especially with many restaurants and street performers along the way.

The tourist bus is a good transportation mean if you don't have lot of time in Barcelona. It stops near the main sights. Moreover, once you bought your ticket you are give a book with many discounts vouchers you can use at various museums, restaurants, shops and attractions.

I think the 2 must see things in Barcelona, which give a good impression, are the Barre Gothic and the Gaudi architecture. And i think both can be seen in one day. Take about 3 hours to enjoy the architecture of the Barre Gothic (the area around the Cathedral, with the beautifull not to miss placa Reial) then take a metro from place Catalunya to Eixample: Sagrada Familia and see a few gaudi houses in the Eixample by walking. If you have time, spend the last 2 hours in the Gaudi park. have fun!!!

Parc Guell
Sagrada familia Casa Batllo Gothic Quarter Las Ramblas (best thing here are the entertainers and artists that line it) These are the number one things to do in Barcelona for someone who loves art or architecture. I have never taken a city tourist bus in my life as I tend to avoid things like that. The Gothic quarter and Las Ramblas are to be done on foot anyway. Have a look at my Barcelona page if you want as it is small and covers only the main highlights as remembered by me (a fan of art and interesting looking buildings). http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/78716/430de/4/ Hope this helps :)
