Athens Marathon transportation

If one stays in Marathon, but needs to come to Athens for dinner, what is the best way, Metro? Commuter train? When will be the last Metro or train going back to Marathon?

Thanks!

Athens Marathon transportation

Hi!

Before you post a question, it would be better to unfold a map of Attica, the district whose capital is Athens. You could realize that:

Marathon is a remote place, I do not know if I should call it a village or a town, 48 kms (almost) from Athens, on the north-east side.

There is no metro to get you there, there is no commuter train to get you there. There are some buses, but not so frequent.I suppose, if you need to come to Athens for dinner, something around evening, then there will be no bus to get you back to Marathon and you will be obliged to take a taxi, which, certainly, will cost you a real fortune!

The only feasible solution would be to rent a car for the days and nights you will need to commute.

Enjoy your dinner!

I can't help it, I must ask, I am consumed with curiousity: why would one WANT to stay in Marathon? There is hardly any "there" there, to quote Gertrude Stein.
