Budapest Places to eat , castle area?
Posted: Sun May 4, 2008 10:55 AM UTC
We will be travelling to Budapest in late May.
Can anyone recommend suitable eateries for lunch / dinner near the castle/fisherman's Bastion?

We would prefer, small local type restaurent rather than tourist haunts.

Thank you

All places around castle area will be more pricey compared to other parts of Budapest. Small local restaurants or cafes are all touristic. If you want to have lunch or dinner there, prepare to pay more. If your budget is limited, take the bus to Moskva Ter and you can find many options.

Agree: the castle and bastion are prime tourist territory, and you will find nothing really 'local' nearby. Better to just have a snack in the area, if you must eat, then find somewhere more off-the-beaten-track in Pest (or Buda, though it's pricier generally imo).

What is in the Castle District and just a block or so from the Fisherman's Bastion is the Ruszwurm Confectionery, perhaps the best pastries I have ever eaten in my life and not that expensive either. Their offerings were sooooo good.

Ruswurm is really good, don't miss it, but it is not for lunch or dinner, as it is a caffe house and you can have sweets there!!
I agree, that restaurants are epensive in Castle area, better to look for other places.
