Barcelona Safety

We will leave Barcelona by flight leaving at 06:30. So, we plan to take a night bus to the airport departing from Plaza Catalunya (which is within walkable distance from our accomodation). Is it safe to walk to and wait the bus at Plaza Catalunya at about 04:00? Or should we take a taxi for safety reason?

Hi

I lived in Barcelona for a while.
It is one of the safest cities I've spent time in.
You should have no problems walking.

Have fun!

Kind regards,

It is safe enough, but it is not the safest and if you walk around normally you will have few problems, however if you walk around with your luggage you heighten the risk of being pick pocketed greatly. This is common in big cities anywhere, and it can happen even during the day. My advice is that if you are worried take a taxi for peace of mind. There will be people on the streets at that time, but if something happens it is more likely to be a quiet pick-pocketer than someone threatening you in Plaza Catalunya or a main street, the people won't deter the 'criminals'. It is more likely to happen off of Plaza Catalunya too if you have to walk down a quiet street. There there could be a risk of being threatened 8as in any other major city).

How far is it from your hostel or hostel and would you have to walk down quiet streets? Sorry, but at the moment I can't see you name and if you are male or female. I think I would feel more vulnerable without sturdy male company.

Well, to sum it up it really depends on how far you have to go and where you will be walking.

feel free to disagree with me this is only my opinion and experience of Barcelona. I remember being followed from Plaza Catalunya to my hostel at night upon arriving. Nothing happened, but we were on the ball. And just encase someone thinks that I was being paranoid I know we weren't cos every time we stopped they stopped etc...

hope this helps :)

Hi, I do live in Barcelona and I have taken night buses at Plaça Catalunya at wee hours at the night many times. I did not feel "unsafe" but there are quite odd characters around. The risk of pickpockets I guess it may be even higher at midday that at midnight indeed (they are "professionals", who of course will adapt their "work" schedule to the hours where there are more potential victims around). On Friday or Saturday it will be still quite busy at 4:00 so I would feel safer.... on week days I guess it will be much quieter

But, as said above, it will depend as well of what streets you may have to walk along, how do you look, etc

Tourists more likely to be stolen are those who are naïve and let strangers approach them or do not pay attention to their belongings (like falling asleep while lying on the beach). I have witnessed incredible cases.
