We will be arriving into San Jose Aiport around 11:40 PM and wanted to know if it was safe taking airport taxi to the Marriott Courtyard, and or the Marriott Resort late at night or early in the morning? Thank you.

We just got back about a week ago and we had no problem with the taxis (we took one at 11pm when we arrived to take us to our hotel for the night). Just make sure you take the official airport taxi. Once you have your luggage, get out of the airport building and on the left side wall you will see a little booth with a sign "Taxi Unidos" (the official airport taxi company). You go to the booth and tell them where you want to go. They will tell you how much it costs, you pay them and they will give you a ticket for each person on your party that is taking the cab. Once you have these tickets, you walk few steps from the booth, give the representative that is working for the official taxi company your tickets and tell them where you need to go. You wait there and they will bring you a taxi to take you to the hotel.

San Jose Airport is a fairly safe place for taking taxis, but if you want to feel safer - plan ahead. There are quite a few sites out there where you can pre-arrange for taxi or limo service ahead of time like GoServices (www.goservices.com) or 1800TaxiCab(www.1800taxicab.com). Hope that helps.

I would agree that it is best for you to take the official airport taxi upon arrival in San Jose. When in the city, always have your hotel call for a taxi on your behalf and never hail a cab from the street as it could be potentially unsafe with the high possibility of a rip off & crazy driving that took me for a joy ride at my expense! I had it happen to me once from downtown SJ to Pavas (one of the more upscale neighborhoods) en route to the shopping plaza there. Goodluck & enjoy beautiful Costa Rica!

You might want to check with them directly. I think they may have airport shuttle service.

I arrived in San Jose at night and I felt safe. Expect a bombard of people offering you a ride. When in question ask for help from an airport employee, but you are better off going to the official taxi counter and getting a ride that way. I was suckered into going into San Jose with an unofficial taxi, but it all went well. Most of those people who are unofficial taxi's are just trying to make a living too
