| Perth | Re:Which forest? Posted: Sat May 3, 2008 04:46 PM UTC
As I am short of time,I would like to be selective in visiting forests. My friend recommended that I go to Pemberton to see the tallest Karri fire-look out tree; another suggested that my kids would enjoy the Tree Top walk in Walpole more, and yet another said I should not miss the Valley of the Giants & visit the Giant Tingle Tree.I would love to do all if I had a lot of time on my hands but as it is,I don't so I'm having some problem here of deciding which would be a better option. Any help here would be appreciated.

Definitely do the tree top walk. Even my Mother at the ripe age of 60+ and extremely scared of heights said it was the best thing to do!!!

Yep the treetop walk. You will also find that the treetop walk is IN the valley of the giants.

Ok, great. That settles it then. Tree top Walk and Valley of the Giants it is!How much time shall I allocate for the visit? If I started off from Margaret River after breakfast, say 10am and get there just after lunch, would we have time to complete the walk by evening?Stay overnight at Walpole or Denmark, then make our way back nothwards the next day or do you reckon that there's other things worth doing around there until the afternoon or stay overnight for 2 nights?

The tree top walk is the safer option ;-) I climbed the lookout tree in Pemberton, it was absolutely fantastic, and additionally we were surrounded by rosellas and rainbow lorikeets. BUT - the climb was so adventurous, my friend chose to climb back down after a minute, it was to scary for her LOL

Hi The Tree Top walk, Valley of the Giants and the Giant Tingle Trees are all located at Walpole. You walk the tree tops and then go below to walk the forest floor and you see the giant Tingle trees. The Tree Top walk is located in the Valley of the Giants.
Visit my Walpole page and you will see many photos. Good Luck, Mike

Hi Best part of a day to do it, however can be done in half day if you rush and do not get caught up in the detail.

So if I were to travel from Margaret River in the am and get to Valley in the early pm, it'll be very rushed to do the tree walk as well as the valley itself? How long are the trails or is there just one?

Hi It is a forest, you could spend all day in it, but most people would take half a day. May I suggest you get to the tree walk about midday, then stay in Walpole overnight and you can spend more time the next morning if you desire, or head off somewhere else.

Gary Muir, who was one of the leaders in designing the Tree Top Walk, also operates an eco tour on the river in Walpole (WOW tour, I think.) Leaves about 10 a.m., back by noon, well worth the time. He's a highly entertaining guide who'll tell you amazing things about the Walpole area, and he'll leave you laughing.
You're visiting a great part of the world. We spent time travelling Western Australia earlier this year and were surprised and amazed by the beauty of the landscape and the warmth of the people. Have a great time.
