I left Nepal just before the elections but have been in regular email contact with friends there since, Everything is reported to be Fine form a safety and security point of view so you should have no worries about going there.
The only disturbing reports coming out of Nepal right now are concerned with the new governments apparent support of the Chinese taking the Olympic torch to the top of Everest and how they are mishandling the security arrangements on Everest by ordering the army to shoot any Pro-Tibetan demonstrators and deporting anyone who has any sympathies with Tibet, they recently deported one climber just because he had a free Tibet T-shirt in his rucksack !!
But by the time you get there this torch should have got up and down the mountain so that hopefully will put an end to that problem !!
If you need any further info then please feel free to both browse my Nepal pages and/or drop me a line
Happy Travels
