| London | evensong at St. Paul's or Westminster Abbey Posted: Sat May 3, 2008 03:34 AM UTC
Has anyone been to the evensong performance at St. Paul's or Westminster Abbey? Is the organ at St. Paul's being repaired? Does the performance include organ music or just vocal music? How long does it last? Does it get crowded?

Evensong is a regular daily religious service, not a peformance as such. It usually lasts roughly 45 minutes to an hour (depending on what 'extras' are involved).
There will be a choir, and hymns for the congregation to join in. Usually there is an introit (organ music before the service starts) as well. St Pauls evensong is at 1700. If the organ is not working then some other musical accompaniment will be provided. There is an Organ Rededication Concert at St Pauls next October, so it pretty certain that it is still under restoration at the moment. There are daily listings of the music involved here: www.stpauls.co.uk Click on the word 'evensong' in the red 'service' box and you will get details of music for that date/service. Westminster Abbey evensong is at 1500. Musical and choral details for each service listed here by date: http://www.westminster-abbey.org/music/choral/
