Paris Department store open 13July Sunday?
Posted: Fri May 2, 2008 12:41 PM UTC
I am travelling in paris on 13 and 14 July - and knew that 14th July is the national day and all shops are closed.. so will department store consider to open on 13th July (Sunday) - I do not want to miss the sale?

Also, heard there is an outlet shopping close to Paris Disneyland - what is the name and any web site info?

if anyone knows or have suggestion, pls let me know
Appreciate that! Thanks

There is no Harrods in Paris, as far as I am aware.

The shopping outlet near Disneyland is La Vallee. Info here:

I don't think departments tores will be opened at all on a Sunday. The only Sundays when shops open are the 4 Sundays before Christmas. Supermarkets are likely to be closed too but small to medium size shops maybe opened in the morning.

To clarify, my 'Harrods in Paris' comment referred to a previous post which has been deleted. I was not being flippant or sarcastic!

The outlet near to Disneyland is Val d'Europe http://www.valdeurope.fr/34-8288-Accueil.php

The shops can be opened on sundays, and not just once a year, but I doubt that any sotres will be opened as the following monday is the 14th of July.

No Kaiser, shops/shopping centres cannot legally open on sundays in France. There are local variations (that's decided by "arrêtés municipaux" -municipal bylaws) and in "touristic areas" (strictly defined), some shops closely linked to tourism are allowed to open but that's about it.
Flexibility around some key dates (eg Xmas) also allows for the opening of some shops or shopping centres on 5 or 6 Sundays and bank holidays a year.

The legislation pertaining to sunday trading is being tweaked (this month I think), but very little will change, I understand one of the main changes is that it'll allow small food shops (such as "supérettes") and supermarkets to open an extra hour on Sunday morning (till 1PM instead of 12am)

According to my wife, the window shopaholic, try the shops in the Marais and the arcade in the basement of the Louvre.

Good shopping!
