| Paris | About the area Panin in East Paris Posted: Fri May 2, 2008 04:27 AM UTC
Could anyone of you tell me something about Panin in the East side of Paris.
And the metro station I am going to use is Hoche on RER 5. RER 5 goes directly to Gare du Nord, right? So I can get to the hotel from the station directly by RER 5. I know that the area is not in the middle of Paris but is OK I do not mind the location. Thanks for your help. |

I take it you mean Pan(t)in. Pantin used to be , like a number of suburbs close to Paris, mainly a nice , rather homely area but then deteriorated over the years, as part of what became known as the "neuf-trois". According to reports and documentaries on the T.V. in the last couple of years has picked itself back up again, helping people to buy homes etc. Hoche is right on the N3, a major road out of Paris, so if your hotel is along there, may not be too quiet.
Other than that, you're right for the RER 5. Just 6 stops from Gare du Nord to Hoche.

Very close to Paris proper, not a bad town overall, considering its neighbours (Aubervilliers, Romainville, Bobigny, etc.). A working-class, cosmopolitan town, with workshops being turned into lofts and urban living style properties for those escaping Paris prices, some great markets, the Ourcq canal, but some dangerous council estates to the north of Pantin. It's not RER 5 but the metro line 5.

Thank you to both of you. I shall take not of what you told me.
I am not going to Paris till July, so will make plans before hand. Could anyone suggest any good and not too expensive restaurant in Latin Quater and Paris, where the waiter or waitress are able to communicate in English?
