| Honduras | Suggestions for 4 days in Honduras Posted: Thu May 1, 2008 08:32 PM UTC
I will be in Honduras for about 12 days in January. I will be stationed in Monte Verde for 1 week with a group, and then would like to spend a few days on my own in another part of the country. I'd like to go snorkelling, lie on a beach, possibly go rafting, and visit the rainforest. Should I be heading to Roatan or can someone suggest a better suited place? Also, how weary should I be as a young white woman travelling on her own? I'm not a naive traveller, but I haven't been to Central America before.
Thanks, Trudy |

I am very excited that you'll be going to such a beautiful place as honduras!!! I completely loved my trip. Well i'll give you a few options of what you might be able to do. You might be interested in Copan if you like ruins. You can find group tours at the ruins and they do have companies that have english speaking guides. If you are interested in the beach, then you definitely need to go to Tela, Atlantida. It is in the north part of the country, not too far from Roatan. This is the place where all of the people go for semana santa, easter week. This place has very nice bed & breakfast hotels, resorts, or cute little cottages on the beach at Tela Mar. Just so that you know the small sleepy town is pleasant, you won't really see the locals at the beach. But they have cute shops and good restaurants! This is a great place to relax. If you don't have your own snorkeling equipment, you can rent some at any resort. They also have tours at the bio-reserve park there, and for culture they have the gerifuna village near by. They prepare the best fish! As far as safety, they have problems with gangs in the big cities there. I did notice a little violence while i was there at night. If you go out walking during the day and use a taxi at night, i think you'll be fine. If you decide to go to Tela send me a message, I can get you a tour guide that actually lives there in Tela. Do you speak spanish? That is the only problem, they don't speak english. Have a great time, I know you'll love it there!

Tela is your best choice. There are small & good hotels as Playa Bonita or Cesar Mariscos And Resorts as Telamar & Shores Plantation. Tours can be arranged with german, italian or english spoken guides
