Sharm El Sheikh Visa if going to Eilat
Posted: Thu May 1, 2008 02:44 PM UTC
Hi all
I am going to be staying in Sharm at the end of July, and have booked a trip to Eilat just for the day, Any fees for crossing the taba border are included in the price, so that bit's sorted. But what I an not sure about is, when I first arrive in Sharm do I need to get the visitors visa on landing, I know I need one if I want to go to Cairo or Luxor as I am leaving the Sinai, is crossing the border to Eilat leaving the Sinai?.

"is crossing the border to Eilat leaving the Sinai?."

Yes, you will be leaving Egypt and entering Israel.

I went from Eilat to Taba a month ago. I had to pay an exit tax when I left Israel, and an entry tax when I entered Egypt. I already had a visa for Egypt. I don't remember how much the fees were but they were not that much.

something for you to remember: when you leave egypt and later come back you need a new visa. either you get it in advance in israel (don't know if need to travel to tel aviv for that) or you pay 'baksheesh' in taba and they give it to you in taba. but you must have a new visa when you enter egypt.

Foxy, I don't know your citizenship but citizens of the US (and I'm sure other countries) can get a mutable entry visas for Egypt before entering Egypt. This is what I had. However, if you get a visa on arrival at an Egyptian airport, you will need a new visa.

Sinai visa. I don't know too much about this because it didn't affect me, but you may want to look into getting a Sinai only visa when you enter at Taba. I believe it is only good for the Sinai area, so you cannot go to Cairo with this visa.
