What is the drive time between Alice Springs and Kings Canyon, using the paved roads. I'll have a rental car, not a 4x4, just a regular car, and need to stay on paved roads. Given this, what is the drive time from Alice Springs airport and Kings Canyon? Thank you.

The distance is 325 km, and as you do not have any traffic jams, it should not take you longer than four hours, so there is plenty of time for stops along the way.

The shortest distance on the paved roads is 472 kkms and will take you approx 5 hrs. You need to go to Erldunda roadhouse turnoff which is 199 klms down the Stuart hwy from Alice (turn as if going to Uluru) then 107 klms further on past Erldunda turn off for Kings canyon which is a further 166 klms. The 325 kmm cutoff is over a highly corrugated gravel road which is not at all suitable for conventional vehicles and in any event is not a time saver.

Sorry - forgot about you not travelling in 4x4, so suggested the route we took in 4x4... :-(

whereis.com is a useful site for this sort of thing. I find the times given are for 'ideal' travel times, and don't really allow for traffic in cities.
