Paris How much for the metro???
Posted: Thu May 1, 2008 12:26 PM UTC
Hi all. I was wondering how much it is to travel on the metro? I am trying to find accomodation in Paris and it seems the further out you go the cheaper it is, so wanted to see roughly how much it would cost to use the metro every day as opposed to spending a bit more money for a place in central paris. Thanks!

It all depends how far you are from "central" Paris. If y ou are within the Metro boundaries, a single ticket will cost you 1.60 euros or you can buy a carnet of 10 for around 11 euros.

Check out thi site for more info: http://www.ratp.info/informer/anglais/

yeah, i agree, its worth looking into a weekly or monthly pass.also look into the zones where you would be mainly heading into and see if that makes a diff in the price.
hope this is of some help,

The carnet is the way to go! Been there twice myself & it's always a good idea to have extra tickets for the Metro. You never know when you might like to do something spontaneous & you need to take the Metro there.

***Very important***: Keep track of your used tickets!! Every time you use a ticket to pass thru a gate (like a turnstyle), it's cancelled & is no longer valid. Look for purple printing on the ticket, sometimes it looks like a line of slashes (//////), sometimes its just a timestamp.

A good trick that I taught myself is to fold the ticket in half as soon as you pass thru a turnstyle. This will help you discern btwn new & used tix & you won't even have to empty your pockets & look thru all your junk to find a new one. Also, don't worry about damaging used tix, you won't need them to exit.

BUT you should keep it until you pass thru the gate to exit. The cops working in the Metro (either CSA or RATP Surete) may just ask you to prove that you've paid to be a passenger.

Tommy,
I beg to differ on the subject of bent used tickets. There are a lot of stations (e.g. Chatelet or Montparnasse) where you need to put your ticket back through the machine when you are changing lines.
No problem with zones on METRO, only on RER lines. So have a good look at a map before booking the hotel. As above mentioned the further out you go the more it'll cost you.

Gotcha! Never ran into that on any of the lines I've traveled but I'll keep it in mind! Thanks!
