I would like to spend 2 nights and one full day in Pompeii in July but fly out of Naples early morning. Does anyone know if there is a direct bus or train between Pompeii and Naples Capodichino airport and where I might find timetable information? If there isn't a direct bus or train is it possible to take a taxi and how much would this likely cost? Thanks.

I do not know a direct bus, but I do not suggest you take a taxi as public transport is so good and taxi ripoff tales can be heard often. (I heard someone who paid €90 for a taxi from Airport to Naples!)

The Circumvesviana train is excellent and will get you to Naples Garibaldi, from there the Alibus will take you to Naples Capodichino.

This will cost around €3 for bus and same again for train.

An alternative is to train the other direction to Castellammare and take a Currei Shuttle bus.

I think the first option is better, the Alibus leaves from near the station, the Currei stop in Castellammare has to be located and starting from Sorrento it can be delayed.

Don't know about a direct bus but you can take the bus from the airport to Centrale station. (1/2 hour?) From there take the Circumvesuviana train to Pompeii Scavi (1/2 hour). This train runs very frequently and is very cheap. The Pompeii Scavi stop is within two minutes walk of the entrance to Pompeii. Don't know if you are intending to stay the nights in the Pompeii vicinity - I haven't a clue what sort of accommodation would be available around there. Might be better just to stay in Naples. That way you could arrive at Pompeii early and leave late, and if you are staying in Naples you would then be able to catch the airport bus in the early morning of your departure.
