| Santo Domingo | Nice Beaches Nearby Posted: Wed April 30, 2008 09:17 PM UTC
This is my second time going to Santo Domingo, and I'm looking for a really NICE beach to spend the day. The last time I went, I took a day trip to Isla Saona and Aura Beach House/Lounge in Juan Dolio. Aura Beach House was nice in terms of atmosphere, but the water wasn't crystal clear and blue as it is elsewhere. Isla Saona was nice, but it was a long trip from Santo Domingo and I found the beach to be really quiet and kinda boring.
I like cystal clear water and white sand, however, as a young 20-something I'd like to visit a beach where there is a little more pep. Some zest. Any advice? How is Boca Chica? |

As opposed to the above poster, I don't think MY country sucks. Can it be better? Oh yes.
Boca Chica is the closest beach to Santo Domingo and it has some "life" as well. This is where locals go on weekends. I don't know how cristal clear the water is at the other beaches in Juan Dolio, and I agree that going to Punta Cana/Bávaro (south east coast) or Sosúa/Cabarete (north coast) just for the day is a long trip. Well, there's a beach town called Guayacanes and that's very close to Juan Dolio.

I'm sorry to hear about that :(
Was there anything in particular about the food that was bad at the Hilton Hotel? Meat served well done instead of medium rare, uncooked rice, etc. Sorry to hijack your thread, OP.

Boca Chica is gorgeous. However, you would likely consider it to be lacking in the "zest" area. When I went (in May when it's dead), I was almost the only person in the water. And there aren't any clubs from what I could see.
