Hiya,

My friend and I are going to Morocco in 5 days time and flying into Marakesh airport. We're going to be staying in Agadir.
We thought that we might be better getting a taxi then attempting to navigate our way around the Moroccan transport system and as we're a little nervous about not having a male in our party.

Does anyone know a good prebooking taxi service that would take us from Marakesh to Agadir? Or would it be better to attempt to organise this at the airport?

I think that there is no problem for you to travel around Morocco.All what you need to do if you approached by strangers is to say NON MERCI or thank you or even in Arabic Chokrane..people are generally friendly and familiar with tourist..
for the taxi , you have to negotiate the price ( as in everything you want to buy ,haggling is a national sport hihihi)
for Agadir you can also go by bus with SUPRATOUR, the station is close to the train station in Marrakesh..there are a lot of buses I think every hour there is a bus.

Prebooking may be a problem unless you have the number for a taxi driver and can speak fluent French or Arabic.
When you arrive at Marrakech airport you can negotiate with a taxi driver but expect to pay around 800 - 1000Dh, about €70 - €90 or £55 - £70, to go to Agadir; that's for the taxi and luggage, not per person.
The taxi will be a battered old Mercedes with no air con so the only option is to have the window open and let all the dust in.
There is a Supratours coach service from Marrakech to Agadir, the journey is about 5 hours with a stop part way through the mountains for snack and toilet use. The cost of this option is about 80Dh per person and the service operates four times a day I think, times of departure are sometimes variable (trying to find the times for you).
If you go for this option you will have to make your way to the rail station at a cost of about 80Dh by taxi, if they ask for more go to another driver or haggle.
The bus station is just next to the train station and you need the Supratours bus which goes to Agadir.
When you arrive in Agadir you must then make your way from the Gare (bus station) to the tourist sector at a cost of about 30Dh, the meter should be turned on, if not give no more.
Unfortunately the train does not yet go to Agadir from Marrakech but one day............

If you are flying into Marrakech, you really ought to spend at least one day there. Don't worry about being without a male, they only get in the way. Take a taxi from the airport to the Supratours bus station, It will cost between 80 & 100 Dirhams, some haggling will be necessary. From there you can take a comfortable bus to Agadir. You should find the time table and prices on http://www.oncf.ma/ Taking a Taxi to Agadir from the airport will be costly. If you have accommodation booked in Agadir they should be able to organise a transfer for you.

Hi, yes dont worry about not travelling in male company - but as two females you will usually get lots of approaches by males to see if they can get lucky and win the lottery - whatever opportunity for them that means - some sort of financial benefit, some sort of relationship or even progress to a passport out of a country that is very difficult to get out of.

Foreign women with their freedom (and theres an increase of women tourists so the possibility of you being the only one is very small - especially with the ones particularly gifted at being charming and manipulative - and theres many of them) are an enticement in a society where access to women in whatever relationship, other than local prostitutes, can be quite difficult.

Thanks so much for all your help! We're going to check out the bus and hope it coordinates with our flight, if not then we may save a little cash and get a cab there but the bus back to agadir for the final 2 days we're going to spend in marakesh.

I am a Moroccan living in the USA. Travelling to morocco without a male company should not be a problem. Men are aggressive vocally , and this is one of those things that bothers when i go home.Just be cool and say no thank you with a smile then they leave alone. people in marrackech see cash and chance to escape the country when they see tourists.
to get Agadir take a cab and have him run the meter,just pretend you have been to Morocco before , they do have locals prices and tourist prices for sure.then take the ctm or supratours to agadir , it cost about 80 dhs.if you have any quetions do not hesitate to ask you can email me at croula @caramail.com.
