| Prague | First time traveling to Prague Posted: Wed April 30, 2008 05:20 PM UTC
I have many questions about traveling to Prague at the end of July.
Does anyone have any feedback on the Hotel Anna? Is it centrally located and in walking distance to many of the sights? I saw it on-line and it looks charming, and the price was very reasonable. However, I could not find it on venere.com (It is part of Claris Hotel Chain). Should I be wary???? Next, my friend and I will be taking a train from Berlin to Prague. Is there direct rail service and if so, is it cheaper to purchase it on raileurope.com for 111 Euros or DB Bahn website? Will they send the ticket to US free of charge? How far is Terezin from Prague? Is there a special tour that goes there? The forum is extremely helpful in planning my trip and I thank you in advance for answering my questions! Beamish |

Venere, whilst an entirely brilliant site, does not have a vast number of Prague hotels listed (it is still explanding its listings).
Plenty of reviews of the Anna here: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g274707-d2 Seems to be fine. Don't use raileurope: it's an agency not a rail company. Use the bahn.de site on: http://www.bahn.de/p/view/international/englisch/i A single ticket will cost you 56.80 euros: bit of a difference there (unless 111 euros is the return fare?). Some trains are reservation-only (and you can do this just before the train leaves, if there is availability) but some aren't. Trains which are not reservation-only do not get 'full' (you just stand until a seat becomes available), so you don't actually need to buy a ticket online at all unless you really want to. Don't know if they send the tickets to the US anyway: you may well have an e-ticket of some sort which you will have to produce at the station to get your 'real'ticket. As for Terezin, it's about 38 miles away. Tour info here: http://www.myczechrepublic.com/sightseeing_tours/t Other info (in English) here: http://www.pamatnik-terezin.cz/showdoc.do?docid=164 You can get a bus from Prague Florenc bus station if you want to make your own way. Costs around 60CK. Journeyplanner for bus times: http://jizdnirady.idnes.cz/ConnForm.asp?tt=J&cl=E5

Thanks so much for the info. You are right about the Bahn website - it is cheaper.
I am a teacher and am leaving Berlin after a week of Holocaust studies with Checkpoint Charlie Foundation (It is a teacher exchange with the US). How far is the Jewish Quarter in Prague from Hotel Anna? What is the best way to get around in Prague? Also, do you have any restaurant/pivovars recommendations? Thank you for letting me pick your brain!!!! Beamish

Look at www.hotelanna.cz.The best way to travel around Prague centre is to walk. All the tourist spots are close to each other and by walking you will see other things you would otherwise miss. For long distances use the metro and for local journeys use the trams. Buy a visitors pass.Valid for all public transport and excellent value. Look at www. myczechrepublic.com for details.

CentralPrague is very walkable, and the city has an excellent and cheap public transport system (bus/tram/Metro).
Some pivovar tips on my Prague pages (which I never really finished....will get round to it soon!), and more on the other VT pages. The beer in all the pivovars I visited was superb (and the food was good too). Enjoy!

Hi,
Hotel Anna is located in central part but away from the main attractions. That means you will need longer walk or take metro which has stop at Namesti Miru (check the hotel website map), several tram lines are available there as well. To jevish part Josefov would be 3 metro stops (to Staromestska stop). From there you can walk to all the attractions.
