I've been on VT for a long time now, but something still baffles me:

Is the search engine actually better than I'm aware of, or is it something that still needs to be improved?

For example:
is it possible to search for Japanese Restaurants in Dubai?

My understanding is that the search engine is going to be improved in the next upgrade.........

There are ways of getting better search results. I tried your example but it is not a particularly good one. Use the Full Keyword Search option. If you put in Dubai japanese restaurant, you get 177,533 results - not very helpful. The top result is actually in Bahrain !

dubai + japanese + restaurant returns 3761 results - no exact answer though.

By putting in Dubai + "japanese restaurant" only 928 results are returned - but still no exact answer to your question.

dubai AND japanese AND restaurant gives 48 results, and probably what you are looking for. If not, maybe you should try looking for somewhere else to eat !

I have not used the VT engine, but if you use Google *Advanced* search to search for:

japanese restaurant dubai

you will get some hits. If you scroll down a couple of postings from this one, there's a post on using Google to search thru VT.

I have certain restaurant sites that I usually use and that have fantastic information, but I had been wondering whether I could search specifically for tips written about VTers in a certain category.

Guess I'll trust my trusty google and my other Dubai-site until VT is improved.
