Hi there, I'm wondering if you can take that cable care from interlaken? How much does it cost and how long does is take to get to the top. Thank you. Any other tips you have on Interlaken,,, I'd really appreciate. I will be going there for the first time in Sept. I'm from Canada and it's my first time in Europe. I will also be visiting Paris and Munich!

Hi

I think you mean the cog railway which goes to Jungfrauhoch from the train station Interlaken Ost. Its an expensive ride, about 170 swiss francs (nearly 160 canadian dollars) but it is a full day out so you may find it worthwhile. Check out: www.jungfraubahn.ch Another option (cheaper) is to go on the funicular to Harder Kulm where you get a nice view of Interlaken.

When in the area, go to the villages of Grindelwald (about 20 francs return) and Murren (about 45 francs return), the latter is a car free town and only reachable by train. They may be better options if the trip to Jungfrau is a bit rich! Then again if your in Murren, you probably want to go up the Schilthorn and that will be another 120 francs return!

Hope this doesn't put you off - its really beautiful.

Have a nice time
John

The tourist information site on:

http://www.interlaken.ch/erlebnisse.html?L=3

will give you lots of info, as will the VT Interlaken pages (use the search box top right of the page).

Same applies for the VT Paris and Munich pages. Official tourist info for those places here:

wouldn't a train pass for a certain amount of days be cheaper? i thought some train passes include specialty train rides?

We travel in Switzerland with a rail pass often and it can be a good deal. You could pay to go from Paris to boarder and then use a flexi or straight day pass the rest of the way. The Jungfrau will still be extra but train or tram rides to things like Lauderbrunen Valley, Murren, Harder Kulm and all kinds of boats, busses and indoor and outdoor museums are free. It's at least worth looking at. If you take some time to look at the Interlaken site and decide what you might like to do you can decide if a pass is a good thing. You can also look at tha multi country pass (France, Germany, Switzerland) and see if that doens't help you with cost. You may lose some of the perks of a Swiss pass but might work for you. Spend a little time at Rick Steves website to get some more ideas to decide what you want to see. His books are great too.
