| Argentina | Buenos Aires- Iguazu-Rio Posted: Tue April 29, 2008 08:25 PM UTC
We are palnning a round the world trip when we retire next Jan and need to find a trip BA- Iguazu-Rio to connect with our ongoing planes.
Think an all in package may be easier for us. Has anyone any reccommendations? |

Frankly I doubt that you would be able to find an all in package for that route. It is pretty easy to book your own, LAN has several flights a day from Buenos Aires to Iguazu and then you can depart from the Brasilian side and either TAM or GOL would offer service to Rio. Web site for LAN is www.lan.com and for TAM http://www.tam.com.br/b2c/jsp/defaultBrasil.jsp and for GOL http://www.voegol.com.br/INT/ As for hotels the Sheraton is located inside the Argentine park and makes it very easy to tour the falls. http://www.starwoodhotels.com/sheraton/property/ov
In the Brasilian park there is the Hotel Cataratas http://www.hoteldascataratas.com/web/ogua/ogua_a2a_home.jsp Not knowing what your budget it is difficult to offer further suggestions. There are many tourist class hotels, hostels, three and four star hotels in the area. My travel pages here for Iguazu have the links for both parks web sites and other information that might be useful. Other VT'ers travel pages would also provide good information for you. Hope this helps and suerte SAM

Don't know what kind of RTW ticket you are using, but if you fly with ONE World it is possible to add LAN flights into your itinerary.
(see for more info www.oneworld.com) I would recommend staying in Puerto Iguazu, a rather authentic South American town, close to the falls. Both sides are easy acessible by public transportation or taxi. Puerto Iguazu offers a wide range of acommodations. happy travels Jaap

When you are buying a RTW ticket, side trips and difficult itineraries can be included, always a little bit more expensive. as suggested earlier, easy to fly to Puerto Iguazu on argentine side from BA,visit the falls on the Argentine side and then move on to the brasilian side (which is far more awesome). you can either stay at the argentine side or the brasilian side, eventhough i find the argentine side to be far more comforting. lots of hotels, good food on both sides. you can fly on to rio from porto iguacu on the brasilian side. transportation from airport to town on both sides are easy. the brasilian side used to have a bad reputation but they have cleaned up the place..

You could do this yourself without a package. I did this in Feb on my own and just booked flights and hotels (which I checked out on Tripadvisor.com)
You could either fly from BA to Iguassu city on the Argentine side or to Foz de Igaussu on the Brazilian side. You could take a taxi to each entrance of the park or , many hotels do, buy a package where you can hire a driver and guide (mine spoke English). You could then leave from Foz de Iguazu on TAM, who do 2 flights daily to Rio. You could also pick the 2 hotels in the park, they are quite expensive but you do save on the taxi fares to and from the cities to the park. I don't know about Iguassu city but Foz de Iguazu did not strike me as the kind of place you would want to roam around at night, there were quite a lot of street kids and poor people arond. A trip to the Argentinian side would take you about 4-5 hourswhere you get up close and personal with the falls), the Brazilian side (which has a better view of the panorama of the falls)3-4 hours. Although everyone says go in the morning to avoid the crowds there were much less people going in when I was leaving mid afternoon than when I got there at 10 in the morning.

Thanks for all your replies. We are booking a RTW ticket with STA travel As we are going to Australia and NZ, including S America on the trip has apparently been somewhat difficult. We are thinking of doing a bus between one of the resorts and Iguazu as we would see more of the country and the buses are supposedly quite comfortable.

The buses are very nice, the trip is about 17 hours from Buenos Aires to Iguazu but most buses travel this route afternoon and overnight so you would not see a great deal. Not sure if you meant that you also want to bus it on to Rio but that would be a very long trip.
suerte SAM
