The Hotel Kolbeck on Laxenburger Strasse 19, is in the pedestrian shopping area Favoritenstraße. It is a beautifully renovated old hotel which is close to the underground railway and which also has a tram stop right outside the front door. It is only a few minutes away by train or tram to anywhere you may want to go. The rooms are big and very well appointed. I paid 45 Euro per night for a single there in June last year and this included a great buffet breakfast. The staff are friendly and very helpful. I thoroughly recommend it and you can book on www.venere.com.

Just for info: Hotel Kolbeck is not what most people would consider central location in Vienna. First of all it is on the outside of the so-called ring road (Gürtel) dividing the central districts from the non-central districts. Secondly, even the nearest central district doesn't have much going on in its "upper" parts. There is practically nothing to do around there. Schloss Belvedere is approx 20 minutes walk away. In terms of transportation the location is fine, it won't take you long to get to the city centre. Just don't expect it to be centrally located in terms of having the main sights within a reasonable walking distance.
