| Dominican Republic | Can anyione recommend an ok hotel in Barahona? Posted: Tue April 29, 2008 09:22 AM UTC
I've heard Baharona is a place to see in the D R- can anyone recommend a decent hotel in town? I am gay- but not over the top- but is it a problem in Baharona to meet people like myself?

Homosexuality isn't illegal but it's not something that people announce either (if you get my drift). Unfortunately in these times, it's a hush-hush issue, you see?
Hotels: I haven't been there, but I understand there's not much. The little I could dig up with is Hotel Caribe, Casa Bonita (www.casabonitadr.com), Maria Montez and Casablanca. Check out ValbyDK's Barahona page for tips from someone who's actually been there: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/b14f9/193ee4/

BTW I hope I didn't offend you with my comment about homosexuality.

You haven;t offended me at all- I'm glad for your honesty- coming from the States( and being born in Europe) we kind of expect there to be gay bars and discos and restaurants whereever we go- but I know that's not always true- and it's better to be forewarned. So thanks anyway for the hotel info- I will still go and see Baharona- my book says it is really beautiful further south past Baharona-but I will keep things on the hush-hush just in case. thanksa again Mike

Corrcet me if I'm wrong, but I thought VT was a travel site, not a hook-up enabling site. By all means tour Baharona, but why should we facilitate...well, enough said.

Barahona is indeed very beautiful and doesn't cater too many tourists, but at the same time it's the most tourist friendly city/province of the south west region. If you have the chance of renting a car or hire a driver, visit our magnetic pole (Polo magnético) and see the car go uphill without a driver (even if you put it in neutral). It's said that's an optical illusion and that the car goes downhill...well I don't get it that's an optical illusion. And if you can, visit Enriquillo lake :)
A little text about our magnetic pole: http://www.eureka4you.com/magnetichillworldwide/Cabral-DR.htm

Mainzer
Keep your ideas to yourself- read the email- and think before you open your mouth with your inane comments.I am gay- I need to know where it is safe for me to be- you are fortunate enough to (presumably) be straight , and do not have to worry about such things- so think in future before you open that gaping mouth of yours that not everyone is looking for the same thing- and asking where gay people might find others on vacation doesn;t mean it is a ploy for 'hooking up" as you call it. Grow up.
