| Vancouver | Vancouver to Toronto? Posted: Tue April 29, 2008 04:40 AM UTC
I am in planning a trip to Vancouver in the end of May. We will be there for 9 days. We are just starting to plan our trip, going around Vancouver and Vicortia islands. We are tossing around the idea of going to Toronto too. Someone said that we can take a boat to Toronto (3 hour by boat), is that the best wat? Is there another way?
Thanks! |

Look up on a map
Totonto Victoria Vancouver Vancouver Island that will orient you to the geography sorta like asking if you can go to San Francisco, then tour around Sausilito Island, and take a quick ferry trip to New York of couse, that's presuming you're serious about your question LOL

Err... Toronto is on the other side of Canada. If you want to go there you have to either fly (about 3 hours!) or take a train (several days)
Do you mean to go to Alaska or down to Seattle? Check your destination please. Happy to help when you know where you want to go. John

Oops. Sorry for the question. My friend was just talking about it like it was possible, even though it didn't make sense to me... haha
Is it possible to visit Alaska from Vancouver? How long is the flight or boat? I think I am going to look into visiting the Rockies, like Banff. How far is the drive from Vancouver? Thanks!!

Hi
From Vancouver, most of the cruise lines operate the inside passage to Alaska -if your into that! Yes you can fly but there is also a ferry service operated by BC Ferries (www.bcferries.bc.ca). They go from Port Hardy on Victoria Island or from Prince Rupert. You can get to both locations from Vancouver, Port Hardy being closer. There are also ferries from Bellingham, Washington State which go to Alaska. You have to figure out where in Alaska you want to go. Why not google "Alaska Marine Highway" and get some lo-down on some of the ports the ferries stop. Vancouver to Banff is about 850 klms (about 470 miles) and yes you can do it in a day but most people take a couple of days for the journey. There is a train from Vancouver to Banff (Banff has a station) but I find it expensive. Lots to choose from - good luck! John

The flight from Vancouver to Toronto takes at least 5 hours, I doubt that you can reach Toronto by boat for only 3 hours. Besides, Toronto is not a port.
As to Alaska, there are lots of cruises leaving from Vancouver, most of them last 7 days. You can google them easily. Good travels!

A cheaper way to "cruise" to Alaska (and more fun if you're young and adventurous) is to take the Alaska State Ferries from Bellingham, just south of Vancouver, to Alaska.
There are cabins for those who want them. But a cheaper alternative is just take a sleeping bag and "camp" on the vessel in the recliner lounge rooms or the upper (enclosed)) solariums ... or even take a tent and put it up on the deck ... acceptable and long-standing tradition .. lots of youth travel that way. Website: http://www.dot.state.ak.us/amhs/ It's definitely not like the mega tour ships.
