| Milan | Embarrassed to ask - but have to! Posted: Mon April 28, 2008 11:14 PM UTC
Are there any stores that sell larger sized women's clothing? Like over a size 18 American - like an Italian 50 or greater? Any ideas?
Thanks! |

I was in Milan last year, Im a size 9 to 11. I had a very hard time finding anything that would fit my bottom half. Tops where easy. I would hope there is something out there for that size, but seeing Milan is the fashion capital of the world and most models are a size 0 it might be hard to find. good luck on your search.

Thanks for answering! You are so tiny - it's a shame they are not making clothes for real women as well!

My pleasure and I agree, they should be making clothing for real women. It's a shame to see such nice clothes and not be able to wear them.

I want to bookmark this in case anyone comes up with a positive reply. Milan is not the only place like this where it's hard to find larger sizes. The only places where I have found them easily were America and the UK.

I realize that your use of the term "real women" is meant to be fat-positive, and that's fine, but it also implies that I am a fake woman because I am naturally petite. It's this kind of attitude that leads people to think it's ok for people to suggest that I go shopping in the children's department.

I really don't think it was meant to imply that you are "fake." I think the term "real women" meant all different sizes (including naturally petite ones) instead of just the typical model size of 0.

I hate to be a bearer of bad news, but...
I am an American size 0 and found that in Milan, I was wearing the equivilent of an American 4-6 (size 38-40). Italian designers seem to cut their clothing much slimmer than other designers, even French.

Marina Rinaldi (Max Mara), Elena Mirņ, Anisette... In Milano, like in many other Italian towns, they have shops just for "taglie forti" (as we call sizes not for skinny girls). You can find them even at La Rinascente and Coin. Enjoy your... size! :-)
