| New York City | from Newark International Airport to downtown Posted: Mon April 28, 2008 07:14 PM UTC
Hello,
I'll be arriving in Newark International Airport in a week's time. Could someone let me know the best and economical way to get to this place from the airport: 1598 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10029 How much will the whole journey cost and how long does it take? Cheers Glen |

Easiest way is to take the train to Penn Station(costs $15) and then either get a taxi or the subway to lexington.
Two sites that may help: http://www.njtransit.com/ http://www.mta.info/nyct/maps/submap.htm

You should be able to get a super shuttle from newark airport apporx $21.00 per person - Queens would be more expensive I guess

If you have large luggages, taxi would be easier as it takes you to the destination on Lexington Ave. From the airport to Manhattan, taxi has a fixed fee. $45, I believe plus a tip.
If you don't have much to carry, a train/subway combination would be the least expensive way to get there, as suggested above.

You could also check out www.coachusa.com. They have express buses leaving every 15 to 30 minutes from Newark Liberty Airport and charge $25 p/p roundtrip, $15 one way. The website explains where they make stops.

All you need to do is take a tram to the train station - (Newark - has a tram that will take you to the public train station) From Newark Airport train station , you take a local NJ Transit train to New York Penn Station - would probably just cost you less than $2.00.
Once you get off NY Penn Station - you can walk to Lexington a good 20mins, or take a cab for $115.00 or even try to take the subway ( with the subway, I recommend you ask the teller ) hope this helps!

SuperShuttle is $21 (it is only $12 for a second person) and will take you to the door of 1598 Lexington. If you are not the first stop it can take 90 min. There is a desk in the ground transportation area of the terminal so look for the BLUE VAN or SUPERSUTTLE desk.

Thanks for all your advice.
Is taking the shuttle bus quicker than the train and subway?

Maybe yes, maybe no. It all depends on the day of the week/time of the day and if you're taking the shuttle if you're one of the first stops or one of the last stops. How's that for a definitive answer?

I have taken the super shuttle from Newark and it's easy and cheap...but not quick-you typically share the ride with 8 or so other passengers that are going to all different locations in Manhattan.

I see.......I'm arriving on a sunday, so hopefully the traffic is not so chaotic.
Think I will consider either the shuttle bus or the train/subway. thanks everybody!

Since your B&B is up at 101st Street, I would recommend taking a shuttle from the airport to Grand Central. Then you could either take a taxi uptown or the #6 subway to your hotel. You CANNOT walk from Penn Station as another poster suggested.

One word...take New Jersey Transit train...stops at the airport although you have to take a short monorail ride to get the train. Takes only 30 minutes and costs around 10 dollars. Takes you right into Penn Station @ 34th st. Best way by FAR!!!
