Hi all,

I'm planning to visit Amsterdam this weekend (02-04 May), but haven't been able to find a hotel room (our budget is around 140 - 180 EUR per night) through all the usual websites. I've personally called 14 hotels and they are *ALL* booked (or out of my price range).

Can someone recommend a decent hostel, perhaps? Preferably, one which is:
-clean
-safe
-centrally located
-fun (though this is probably a given, if the first three requirements are met)

Is there any hope of just showing up on Friday without a booking and hoping that someone might have cancelled their reservation in the meantime?

Well it's awfully late to try now, but have you considered renting a flat for the two days?
I did and was very satisfied.

Couch Surfing (www.couchsurfing.com) is a good site. Not a hotel but an option for you! Good luck on your search.

Hi Srik - Try www.hostelworld.com. They have budget hotels, apartments, and guesthouses as well as hostels. We used them a few times last year and had good luck with them. Happy Travels!

Check the hostelsamsterdam.com site they offer guesthouses, apartments and pensions in Amsterdam, maybe thats something to look into.

Here's a couple of suggestions if you dont mind being a bit away from the centre of Amsterdam.

The beautiful city of Haarlem is 15 minutes by train from Amsterdam Central.
Try booking.com for availability.

The other option is to try and get something near Schipol Airport (which is also near Haarlem) and take the train in from there. Hotels in this vicinity usually provide a shuttle service to/from the airport (where the train station is also located)
