My son is in Palma and needs to travel to Antibes. I see there is a ferry service to Barcelona. What would be the best and cheapest way for him to travel from Barcelona to Antibes.

There are no scheduled ferry services between Spain and France.
The cheapesto choice to travel from Barcelona to the South of France is the scheduled bus service: www.eurolines.es There is also Vueling Airlines,a low-cost airline operating from Barcelona to Nice daily: www.vueling.com There is a train from Barcelona to Montpellier (www.renfe.es). From there, you have to switch to the French railway system.

Your son may try the french SNCF railroad train. Watch the below link:

He is permitted to buy a ticket or go for a run by car on french A-8 Highway. At 171 Km he will must get the way in side track to Antibes.
