I have booked a room at La Carmela for the long weekend in June. I was tempted by the really low rates and the beachfront location so I booked the room right away... without surfing for reviews! Much to my dismay most reviews were terrible! - but some said twas okay though. Is La Carmela really that bad?

If so I am planning to transfer to Escondido - a safer bet since I have enjoyed my stay there before, though its quite a walk to the beach and much more pricey. I booked through a travel agent so my choices are really limited.

unless you are blind, have no sense of smell, dont mind crowds and sewerage and customer service that is awful, stay at La Carmela. Reviews from many people tell the story, the lowest prices around confirm it..what more do you need.

Honestly, trust the reviews. Escondido will be a much better choice. And there are other places with similar prices as La Carmela but which are much nicer in terms of location and service. Some budget hotels are great (such as Dave's Straw Hat Inn). Unfortunatly La Carmela isn't one of them.
