| Angkor Wat | $200 budget enough for PP and SR? Posted: Mon April 28, 2008 09:44 AM UTC
does a $200 pocket money enough in 1 day in pp and 3 days in SR? Actually we'll be coming from hcmc and we'll stay overnight at PP then head to SR for 3 days and coming back, we'll stay again overnight at PP then back to hcmc... i got a guesthouse for $30 for these days..does the remaining $170 enough for food and tour and a little bit of shopping? just wanted to know so that we know how much money we'll bring thanks:)

Are you the only one on that $170 ?I ask because it's going to cost you $40 already each for the 3-day pass into Angkor.Tuk-tuk hire and eating is not at all expensive, but have you also taking into account the return travel to HCMC ? Seems a bit tight to me, better to have a bit more than not have enough !!!

if a one-day temple tour will suffice for you, a one-day pass costs US$20. there are a lot of restaurants to choose from in the old market/ bar street area to suit your budget. there is hardly anything to shop in siem reap (rather unfortunate for a country that had so many artisans centuries ago).
Ask for the fare before you get on a public transpo. The tuktuk at the hotel where I stayed charged double what the tuktuk outside the hotel (a short 20 meters away) charged. It was a 10 minute walk to bar street, and i walked back to the hotel after dinner. the taxi driver who drove me around for 2 days charged me 40% more than the usual rate for the trip to the airport.

Hi again,
I didn't personally do the trip by bus, but after a quick "google" I found that SR to PP is about $6 and PP to HCMC is $12.

few days ago the fare to Pnom Penh from Siem Reap was 10 usd on mekong express. there is also a direct bus service to hochiminh from siem reap via pnompenh.
170 usd without including hotels in pnompenh or bus fares or entrance to Angkor plus tuk tuk to take you there every day for ONE PERSON IS NOT ENOUGH.
