| Perth | What to do in between the time? Posted: Mon April 28, 2008 03:26 AM UTC
Hi. I will be visiting the beautiful Perth next month. I will be arriving at the Perth airport at 8pm alone and will need to wait for my friends there who will be arriving on the next flight at 2am. Kindly suggest wat can I do in between. Is there any luggage deposit counter at the airport? I dun want to drag my big and bulky suitcase around with me. Thanks!

Hi,
Sorry but I've never been to Perth so can't suggest something to do for the 6 hours wait. However the Perth Airport site give this information regarding luggage lockers Luggage lockers are provided by Smarte Carte and are available for use for the short-term storage of luggage. Three different size lockers are available for hire and the lockers are located on the central forecourt area, between the car park and the front of Terminal 1 (International). The charge for using the luggage lockers are: Locker Size Capacity Price (per 24 hr period) Small Locker 1-2 small backpacks A$6.00 Medium Locker 1-2 large backpacks or 1 standard sized suitcase A$8.00 Large Locker 1 extra large suitcase A$12.00 Instructions regarding the use and hire of the luggage lockers can be found on the front of the actual lockers, and are available in eight different languages. After the luggage items have been secured inside the locker, a ticket containing a unique PIN code will be issued. The PIN code must be entered in order to retrieve the luggage items. Please note that there are no luggage lockers available for oversized baggage, such as surfboards or windsurfers. Export Air also provides storage facilities for certain luggage items at Terminal 1. For more information, please contact Export Air on +61 8 9477 1080. Hope this helps. http://www.perthairport.net.au/ cheers,

Lucky you! Perth is loaded with exciting things to do and suggest you contact the official tourist bureau. So many spectacular parks and squares with marvelous bronze figures both animals and human - can recommend the Swan river Cruises and numerous Pubs have gigs to entertain and a plethora of eateries of every ethnic persuasion get your fingers busy and find what is on at the time you go and check out Fremantle. Easy to reach on an excellent rail service and "The Shed" will keep you busy and getting to Rotness Island is offen a difficult issue and no wories a train trip to Lake Mandurama and hire a Pontoon (no licence needed) not expensive and take a picnic with you and think you would have more fun accept you do not see the Quolls.Ask the local Bureau and Kings Park is a must and the vist to Houghton's is great with a lunch and a choc factory as add ons. Good luck!

Where are you coming from? Are you then going on to somwehere else?
6 hours isnt a lot of time to do anything (especially if you have to allow getting out of customs).....Taxis are as rare as heens teeth here in Perth at the moment. Cheers Col

What terminal are you and your friend arriving in to? and are you both leaving for another destination...the reason why I ask is because if you are arriving in the international then leaving from the domestic by the time you clear through customs and get to the domestic thats your 6 hours!!

Perth airport is a fair distance from the city. There won't really be time to get to the city, do something and get back to the airport again. You could wait at the airport, it's a pleasant place with shops, restaurants and pubs (not sure if they are all open late).
If you are staying in Perth it might be more convenient to meet them at your accommodation.

You don't say which terminal you're arriving at. By the 2am arrival time, I presume your friends are arriving at the International Terminal. The two are quite some distance apart. If you are arriving at the International terminal, you will have to clear Immigration and Customs, which will probably take you about an hour from your arrival time, which is actually touchdown not stepping into the terminal. That puts the clock at 9pm before you can think about leaving the airport.
Being realistic, all you will have time to do is take a taxi into the city for a couple of hours - it's about a 20 minute journey plus waiting time for the cab - at least 10 minutes, maybe 20 if you've been held up and are at the back of the queue. Apart from restaurants, pubs, clubs and cinemas, there will be nothing open in the city centre by the time you arrive there. Shops in Perth city centre close at 5.30-6.00 every night except Friday when they close at 9. The airport itself is surrounded by light industry sites and suburban housing and shopping centres - nothing much doing there. You could spend a couple of hours in the restaurant/entertainment area known as Northbridge, adjacent to the city centre but you would need to allow yourself plenty of time to get a cab back to the airport - as 2cities said in his post, taxis are in great demand and can it be very difficult to get one without quite a wait. Do you have to wait for your friends? Are you staying in Perth for the night? If you are, why not go straight to where you're staying and wait for them there?

After the flight from Singapore I agree that you should consider going to your Hotel instead of waiting for your friends, you will be tired from your flight and if your friends have to go through immigration you will still be at the airport at 3.a.m.
I don,t know Perth Airport, but as other Australian Airports have a curfew I imagine that you are not going straight onto a flight elsewhere. Give some more information about your plans.

Looking at your profile which suggests that you are flying from Singapore you need to know that Perth International Terminal is nothing like Singapore's International Terminal which is awesome...you could certainly spend a day in the airport (which we have done!) and not be bored!
If you are wanting to wait at the airport( international) for your friends so that you catch a taxi with them I would suggest that you will just have to have a book to read or something else to occupy your time. If you are flying into Perth yourself internationally, I would recommend you staying in the transit section where from memory I think there are television screens which will also keep you awake. That way you don't have your luggage to cart around with you and you can clear customs with your friends.

You would not be allowed to stay in the transit area as is suggested unless you are actually in transit. You will have to clear immigration and collect your luggage along with all the other passengers on your flight and make your way to the public concourse and wait for your friends there.
