Crete Island Plane, Bus connections

I will be flying to Chania in early June and I want to get to Rethymno. Is there a bus fromt the airport directly to Rethymno or do I have to switch in Chania?

I have looked at the KTEL site so please do not post it up again. I can figure it out but I'm hoping this is a faster route

Hi - there's no direct bus to/from Rethymnon from Chania airport and from what I understand, the local buses to Chania are fairly rare. Your best bet is a taxi into Chania bus station then get the hourly bus to Rethymnon from there. I would say get the taxi to Souda, but from what I remember not all the main coast buses go through there.

The airport of Chania, called "Daskaloyiannis Airport",is a little bit faraway from the city of Chania,on a location called "Akrotiri",which in Greek means:Cape.Three years ago, when it was my last visit to Chania, there was no buses to the aiport (for obvious reasons!) and you should count at least 20 euros for the city of Chania.

What you can do is the following:take a taxi from the airport and ask from the taxi driver to take you to the KTEL (Interurban buses) Station. From there a bus will take you to Rethymnon in about an hour. You should not be afraid about the frequency of the buses: every hour, there is a bus to Rethymno.

Enjoy your holidays!

Melissa - I think that sometimes it's referred to Souda after the air force base, but it's located on the Akrotiri Peninsula. If you go on Google Earth or maps Akrotiri, Souda and Chania are all marked and yu can see the airports location. Although its not far from Chania in distance, in reality it's quite remote! In your position, I would definately get a taxi.
