This is a brilliant idea and can easily be done. Finding accommodation depends on your budget. i can give you good tips for €20 - 45/night (double) in both places
If you want to sepnd more you can but there's no need to

Hi,
This is a good idea to drive by yourself. The only thing is that it'not easy driving in Morocco, the red lights, motorcyles ,caleches, bicycles ...don't make it easy for the first experience driving in Morocco. If you have already been Egypt, Turkey , Lebanon or Italy maybe you will find it easy..if not I advice to take a taxi or a 4X4 if you are going to the desert and off-roads in the hight atlas mountains ..don't forget to negotiate the price..
where to stay is not realy what to think about a lot ...a research on the internet will give you an idea about the hotels, riads and the prices
enjoy your holidays in Morocco

Hi, I dont agree that driving in Morocco is difficult. It can be slightly hair raising in Marrakech, but not particularly - if I can, who comes from a country where we drive on the other side of the road, on the second time ever driving on the other side of our normal, pick up a rental car from the middle of Paris and head off out of town in a city with traffic far more hectic than 'Morocco' then Im sure you can drive in Morocco! and doesnt compare to places such as Cairo, India, cities in China.

As for redlights, bicycles, motorbikes - these are commonly found when driving in other countries around Europe and the world!

and I love driving in Morocco! Ive driven frequently and around a lot of Morocco - day and night. Good defensive driving skills as with driving anywhere is what mainly helps. Watching whats around you, driving appropriately for the conditions and you should settle in and become comfortable.

but first week of May now - so you might already be there! All the best and have a roam around some of my tips if youve not left yet - particularly Telouet, Ouarzazate, Morocco, Dades pages.
