Rome Dining recommendatins in the Vatican Area

Need suggestions for an inexpensive, non-touristy place with a local feel for lunch or dinner. For lunch, does anyone have a recommendation for a place where we can enjoy a good antipasto? Our hotel is near the Vatican.

Perhaps the best tip is (sorry I'm going to yell) AVOID THE MAIN STREETS FOR ALL MEALS IN ITALY. Also avoid like the plague any place that advertises its wares in many languages - they will almost certainly rip you off.

Head off down the back streets and the further you walk from the main streets the cheaper (probably better too) eateries will be there waiting. Look for places where there are locals.

Antipasto is where you find it - LOL

We stayed some distance from The Vatican so I can't give you any tips on where to eat around there, but seeing that eating is a passion in Italy you won't have any problems.

Enjoy Italy - ciao

Hi,
In Prati district, the area right close to Vatican, there is one of my favorite restaurants (trattoria) called "TRATTORIA AI VILLINI". It's located right off Via Cola di Rienzo (famous shopping street) and you can be sure that there will be more locals than tourists. Actually, I often go there on Sundays during lunch and I've never seen any tourists.
The food is very good and it's home made. The trattoria is run by family and it's a typical Italian place: nothing fancy, but with tasty food.
My favorite dish is: Scaloppine al vino 8Euro and carcioffo 4 Euro
Prices for 2: with 1/2 liter of wine, a bottel of water and coffee is about 40Euro

Address: Via Marcantonio Colonna 46
(about 15 min walk from St. Peter's Basilica)
Tel: 063216766
IT'S CLOSED ON SUNDAY EVENING AND ALSO ONE OTHER DAY I DON'T REMEMBER
Enjoy!!!
