| Kenya | Horse Riding in Kenya Posted: Sun April 27, 2008 11:30 AM UTC
Hi All,
I'll be back again in Kenya later this year and was hoping to maybe do some horse riding this time. I'm only looking for a 1-2 hour trek, not a full-blown horseback safari over a couple of days. I haven't decided yet where exactly in Kenya I'll be travelling to, but am considering the Maasai Mara and maybe some places north of Nairobi (e.g. Baringo, Samburu, Shaba). Are there any VTers here who have gone on a horseback trek in Kenya and can maybe recommend a good place for that in the areas that I'm planning to visit? |

Hello
There are shed loads of places offering horse riding safaris - ranging from 1/2 hour rides to full day excursions. Close to Nairobi - Whistling Thorns does this; while in the Mount Kenya area I have had the pleasure of horse riding at Mountain Rock hotel (The company that owns most of the huts along the main mountain climbing routes). While in Mombasa (close to your normal destination), I have done this from Mamba Village - just off the mainland. Kind Regards, Mwenyeji

Thanks Mwenyeji, I hadn't realised that it would be so easy to go for a short ride. Most places I had found on the web just seemed to be doing week-long riding safaris.
And I will of course also pay a visit to my "usual destination" while in Kenya, so I might check out that place in Mamba ;-).

If you wishing to travel northern Eastern parks, Samburu & Shaba. You can enjoy horse back safaris at Sweetwaters Game Reserve.
It is the only park that host chips at its gallery forest. In need of more info let me know.
