Buenos Aires ATM Daily Limit
Posted: Sun April 27, 2008 04:55 AM UTC
Haven't been to B.A. for over a year and have been reading about new strict withdrawal limits imposed by visa, banelco, and some banks. I need a U.S. ATM debit card that does not charge a withdrawal fee and will allow me to withdraw up to $500 U.S. a day or more.

Any suggestions? Are people still having this problem?

Is is just visa or master card as well that is doing this?

you will have to shop around at different banks. but i doubt that you will find one that charges no ATM fees nor international transaction / currency exchange fees. if you do, let us know because surely we'll all change back accounts.

it is not the U.S. bank that limits your withdrawal in this case, but is rather the Argentina Banks and the limit is less than $500 per day. this is relatively new, from about January of last year if i remember correctly.

Hi - since I live in India and have my bank account in the US, I get absolutely screwed with all kinds of charges. I have heard that Commerce Bank (out of NJ) does not charge an international surcharge. Don't know if it's true or not, but I'll be checking it out this week when I head back to the states. Happy Travels.

I am wondering if this limit is in effect with the international banks like Citibank. Specifics would be helpful. If you guys could actually name the banks you are banking with, the fees, and the limits, that would be appreciated by all, I'm sure.

Last time I was in B.A. I was using my Netbank card and there was no ATM fee. Of course Netbank was bought out by ING and I'm not sure the policy is still in place.

Also, some have suggested that certain ATM's dispense more than others. If you know this to be true actually telling us where those ATM's are would be great.

Thanks!

USAA will allow you to use the atm's If there is a charge it is reimbursed. Of course you must have USA military affiliation to use their bank.

Thanks, guys. Okay, so Schwab looks pretty good, and USAA as well. Will investigate ways to get membership. Sometimes there are backdorrs in...

In the mean time doscovered that i can send a money gram to myself. Flat $9.99 charge and can pick up in a lot of places including many cambios.

On a $1000, 1% is a reasonable fee to have cash handy when needed without wanting to carry $$ around...
