Jerusalem Mt. Zion Hotel opinions
Posted: Sat April 26, 2008 07:19 PM UTC
I'd appreciate up-to-date experiences with Mt. Zion hotel. gilabrand's page is very positive about it, the pictures look great and the location, but some of other sites' ratings are really low due to negatives about service.

Also if you know of another hotel with some charm, location (pref. near Old City), not the highest price (under $400/night), I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

A really nice hotel which is a walking distance from Jaffa gate and also not far from the nightlife area of Jerusalem is the YMCA. Don't get fooled by the name, it's a fancy hotel. Right across the street from King David's hotel. I've never slept there but I did dine there several times and it a beautiful place. I don't know about the price though. Their web site is: http://www.ymca3arch.co.il

I have stayed at the Mount Zion last February and have only good things to say about it, definitely for a 4 star hotel. Unlike other 4 star hotels in Jerusalem (Dan Panorama, Novotel, Olive tree etc.) Mount Zion is unique for being hosted in a compound of old and old looking buildings, all turned into a well maintained hotel with great location. The inside of the hotel still preserves the authentic theme of the city, as well and spectacular views from the lobby (that is located, unusually, in the “upper floor” as the hotel is spread on the slope) and swimming pool.

Most rooms DO not have open views: reserve “citadel” rooms (upper floors as well as larger and more renovated) if you require that. Breakfast was great and the pool & SPA (Turkish bath + outdoor Jacuzzi) are large and not some rooftop pond. The only “pros.” Is that compared to many other hotels, Mount Zion is somewhat remote from city center (short and cheap taxi ride). It is, however, quite close to the German Colony restaurant area, as well as being near by the old (out of use) train station that has recently developed into another small culinary center.

Enjoy
