Can anyone recommend a private guide to show us the off-the-beaten path stuff in Prague for an afternoon? I will be in a party of three from May 6 to 9. Any Prague residents wish to volunteer?

If you can't find any local resident to show you around (and I agree, in theory it could turn out to be a good idea), save yourself the bother of hiring a private guide who might turn out not to be what you want or not that essential. One afternoon is not a lot, that guide might slow you down. However, if you are up for it, you can explore a lot in one afternoon, at a brisk pace, walk around Stare Mesto and Mala Strana, inc. the Kampa Island area (see my previous post on top of the Prague board for suggestions for one day).

Hi Will, We took a 6 hour walking tour with English speaking guide, there were only 4 people in the group but he has a limit of 12. It was a great tour, included lunch at a local restaurant and a 1 hour cruise on the river. We saw all the major tourist sites. Tours start at the Astronomical Clock next to the Town Hall in the Old Town Square at 10am. You can see my tip with details on my Prague Page. I am certain they would accommodate the 3 of you with a private guide.
