We will be arriving at Florence airport at 11.30pm on Thursday 1 May evening. By the time we get our luggage I am sure the train/bus? will have stopped running. Is it easy to get a cab froom the airport to the city and does anyone know how much it should cost?

There is no bus service from Florence airport to the city center after 11:30 pm, the only public transportation choice you have is taxi. There will be taxis outside the airport when you arrive. Considering night-fare and luggage surcharge you should end up spending some 30 EUR or 24 GBP.
