I found Sim Lim disappointing as far as good prices go, although I may not have been looking in the right places. I've only just got a good laptop from the Dell website, it's by far the best option I found.

You can try your luck at the FUNAN THE IT MALL in City Hall.

For notebooks, I don't really think that Sim Lim Square is a good place to go. They sell at the same list prices at many of the electronics superstores and will charge extra when you pay by credit cards.
Try any of the electronics superstores such as Harvey Norman, Courts and Best Denki. Funan Digitalife Mall has both Harvey Norman at the basement, Courts on level 3 (or is it 4?), South Asia Computer on level 3 and Challenger on level 6. Good place to shop for laptops. The best value for money laptops in my opinion are the dual core ones from Compaq. They are not necessary the cheapest, but represent excellent value for money at less than S$2k for tons of features. Just my 2 cents.... :-)
