| Grand Canyon | Rim-to-Rim Posted: Thu April 24, 2008 05:12 PM UTC
Hi!
I ve a week vacation starting May 25. Have been wanting to do Rim-to-Rim for quite some time now. This seemed like a great opportunity to do it. But as I expected all campground permits are gone (infact they were gone on Jan 2). Does anyone out there hiking Rim-to-Rim on the week of May 25 and has an extra permit. I ve done extensive hiking and backpacking in Yosemite. Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. Regards ABM |

People work hard to get those backcountry permits and, when they do, they're often for an inconvenient date. I don't know that you'll find anyone willing to give one up.
You can show up to the permit office at the South Rim early in the morning and try to get one. They do give them out, and there are positive stories of people pulling this off. But it depends on how flexible your travel dates are, because it's unlikely that you'll get one on your first day. They also have a stand-by situation, but that involves even more time.
