| Nice | Nice August travel Posted: Thu April 24, 2008 08:58 AM UTC
Hi all. Me and my friends are going to visit Nice from August 2 up to August 9 2008. What are the weather conditions that time? Is there anything particular we should notice?
Also i have been checking some low budget hotels like Trocadero or Kyriad. Does anyone have any recommendations to make? We will hire car, so distance from center is not a matter. Thanks in advance Anthony |

I can't really comment on Kyriad as I have never stayed in one, just make sure it is reasonably central, it is not much fun to be stuck between two motorway junctions or, worse, near one of Nice's dodgy areas like the infamous Ariane district or some of the outer suburbs. I always stay near the Old Town, I like to go out at night till late and this is a perfect area for that.
Weather that time of the year is perfect, it is rarely too hot (unlike places inland, Grasse for instance will be approx. 6 to 9 degrees hotter, I've known the temp in Nie being 30c and in Grasse 37c, stifling heat and no wind!), in Nice there's often a nice light breeze on the Promenade and along the coast, expect 28-32c every day with the occasional shower or storm. Try ADA on 4 rue Meyerbeer for a car (not far from the Negresco hotel),they're usually good and fairly cheap. If you hire a car, beware of Nice's speciality: "vols à la portière", in other words bag snatching from cars stuck in traffic or stationary by usually 2 blokes on scooters, 1000s of incidents have happened in the last 10 years, it is not a legend! It used to be exceedingly bad between the airport and the city centre but the police dismantled a few gangs a few years back, it seems to be less dangerous now but just be careful. It is still iffy round Nice Etoile. But transport along the coast is excellent, the train goes into Italy and the bus network in the Alpes Maritimes department is excellent as well, and very very cheap, only €1 per ticket for any destination!

In August? Why? Do you want to spend your time on the Riviera sitting in a giant traffic jam or looking for somewhere to park? Public transport is vastly more efficient and cheap as a means of getting anywhere here.Nice to Cannes is a little over twenty minutes by train, and I've known it take over two hours by road. If you have a specific need for a car that's different, but my best advice is to think again about driving in high season here.

Nice in August is typical summer weather. Hot in the day time and a little cooler in the evening.
